Balancing a D&D encounter by hand means cross-referencing challenge ratings, adding up an XP budget, and still guessing at whether the fight will actually feel hard, easy, or like a slog. This generator does the math for you: set your party’s level and size, pick a target difficulty from easy to deadly, choose an environment, and optionally add a theme, then get back a complete, balanced encounter in seconds.

Every result includes a title and summary, a monster list with counts and challenge ratings, terrain notes that shape how the fight plays out, suggested enemy tactics so the encounter does not just turn into everyone standing still and trading attacks, a twist to keep things from feeling flat, an XP budget for the whole encounter, and a treasure suggestion appropriate to the fight.

Every monster comes from the System Reference Document, the open rules and monster list Wizards of the Coast publishes for free use. That keeps every encounter legally safe to publish, stream, or sell, since it never reaches for copyrighted named creatures outside the SRD. Because it is text-only, the encounter generator is free for every Sprixen account, with a daily limit of 30 on the free plan and 200 on Pro to keep the tool available for the whole community.

Pair a generated encounter with the battle map generator for the terrain it describes, or the token maker and NPC generator if you want a face on any monster or ally involved.

Questions before you roll.

What do I get back from the encounter generator?

A title and summary, a monster list with counts and challenge ratings, terrain notes, suggested enemy tactics, a twist to keep the fight from being flat, an XP budget for the encounter, and a treasure suggestion.

Does it use real D&D monsters?

It draws from the System Reference Document (SRD), the open rules and monster list Wizards of the Coast publishes for free use. That keeps every generated encounter legally safe to publish or stream, since it never uses copyrighted named creatures outside the SRD.

Is this free?

Yes. Encounter generation is text-only and costs no credits once you are signed in, with a daily rate limit to keep the tool available for everyone.

Can I use generated encounters in a paid game or published adventure?

Yes. Since the generator only uses SRD monsters and generates original encounter text, you are free to use, adapt and publish the results in a paid campaign, a module you sell, or a monetized actual-play stream.

How do I run this at my table or import it into a VTT?

The encounter is plain text meant to drop straight into your session notes. Pair it with the battle map generator for the terrain and the NPC or token maker for any named monsters you want a face for, then place your existing SRD monster tokens on the map in Foundry or Roll20.
