The hardest NPC to write is the one you need five minutes before the session starts, a shopkeeper the party will inevitably interrogate, a guard captain with an opinion, a fence who knows more than he is letting on. This generator takes a one-line idea and returns a complete NPC: name, race, role, appearance, personality, a motivation, a secret, a plot hook, a sample line of dialogue, and a full stat block with AC, HP, speed, ability scores, skills and attacks, ready to run without more prep.
Text-only NPCs come back instantly and cost no credits, with a daily limit of 30 on the free plan and 200 on Pro, for when you just need a name and a personality fast. Turn on “include art” to get a matching portrait and token generated in the same style options as the token and portrait tools, useful for a recurring NPC the party will meet more than once, or any face you want on the map immediately.
When you include art, the NPC also comes with a ready-to-import Foundry actor JSON file in the dnd5e system shape, ability scores, AC, HP and the token image already wired up, so it becomes a fully playable actor in Foundry in one import instead of manual data entry. Without art, you still get a plain JSON download of the full NPC sheet for your own notes or tooling.

What does an NPC include?
