Best MCP Servers for Game Development in 2026 (Godot, Unity, Unreal, Blender, Roblox)

The MCP servers that let Claude Code, Codex and Cursor work inside game engines and generate game assets: Godot, Unity, Unreal, Blender, Roblox Studio, Aseprite and asset generators, with stars and install commands.

An AI coding agent can write a game's code, but it needs two more things to finish one: hands inside the engine (open scenes, place nodes, run the game, read errors) and a source of art that matches. In 2026 both come from MCP servers. This list covers the ones worth installing, split into engine and tool servers and asset servers. Stars were read with the GitHub API on November 1, 2026.

MCP for Blender

The most starred game-adjacent MCP server. It creates and edits objects and materials, runs Python inside Blender, renders, and pulls models from Poly Haven, Sketchfab and Poly Pizza or generates them through Meshy, Tripo, Rodin and Hunyuan3D. Install with uvx mcp-for-blender setup plus the Blender add-on. The project was renamed from blender-mcp, so older guides use the old name.

Unity: three options now

Coplay's MCP for Unity exposes about 50 tools for scenes, GameObjects, C# scripts, assets, tests and builds (install through the Package Manager git URL or openupm add com.coplaydev.unity-mcp). IvanMurzak's Unity-MCP also works inside a built game. Unity itself deprecated its in-editor MCP and replaced it with the free Unity CLI (unity mcp configure claude), which needs Unity 6.0 LTS or newer for a live editor.

Godot

Coding-Solo's server launches the editor, runs the project, captures debug output and edits scenes and nodes: claude mcp add godot -- npx @coding-solo/godot-mcp. Godot AI is newer and deeper, with 46 tools over a live Godot 4.7 editor, installed from the Asset Library. There is no official Godot MCP.

Unreal

Unreal Engine 5.8 ships an official, experimental Unreal MCP plugin (enable "Unreal MCP" and "All Toolsets"; it listens on 127.0.0.1:8000/mcp). EngineWire is the community option with 400+ capabilities across levels, Blueprints, UMG and materials, and it supports 5.0 to 5.8.

Roblox Studio and Aseprite

Roblox replaced its open source Rust server with an MCP built into Studio (Assistant, Manage MCP Servers), with quick connect for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor; it can run Luau, insert assets and playtest. Aseprite MCP gives an agent 123 drawing, layer, animation, tilemap and export tools, useful for cleaning up generated pixel art.

Install Sprixen in Claude Code with claude mcp add --transport http sprixen https://api.sprixen.com/v1/mcp, then run /mcp and sign in. Codex uses codex mcp add sprixen --url https://api.sprixen.com/v1/mcp followed by codex mcp login sprixen; the full setup is in the MCP docs.

A setup that works

  1. One engine server for the engine you ship in (Godot MCP, MCP for Unity or the Unreal plugin).
  2. One asset server that locks a style per project, so every request from the agent matches the last one.
  3. Optionally Blender or Aseprite for cleanup and kitbashing.
  4. A short rules file (CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md) that tells the agent which project to generate into and where to save files.

We walked through that setup end to end in making all of a game's art from Claude Code in one style.

FAQ

What is an MCP server for game development?

It is a small server that gives an AI agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor tools for a game engine or an asset generator, so the agent can open scenes, run the game or generate sprites without you copying files by hand.

Is there an official Godot MCP server?

No. Godot has community servers; Coding-Solo/godot-mcp is the most used, and Godot AI is a newer, deeper option for Godot 4.7.

Does Unity have an official MCP server?

Unity deprecated its in-editor MCP and now offers MCP through the free Unity CLI, which needs Unity 6.0 LTS or newer for a live editor. Coplay's MCP for Unity remains the most popular community option.

Can an MCP server generate game art?

Yes. Sprixen, PixelLab, Scenario, Meshy and Ludo.ai expose asset generation as MCP tools, so the agent can create sprites, icons, animations or 3D models while it writes the game.
